The overall principle of Prognostics and Health Management is to transform a set of raw data collected on the monitored equipment into health indicators which can be extrapolated over time to define a detailed decision support. This book presents the PHM process in a general way. It proposes an approach for generating monitoring data representative of the degradation phenomena of critical components, which will serve as the basis for establishing health indicators. Finally, it details the benefits of implementing PHM solutions in industry before addressing the major issues and challenges it raises. **The authors** Rafael Gouriveau is a lecturer at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique et des Microtechniques de Besançon (ENSMM). Member of the FEMTO-ST Institute, his research activities focus on the development of Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) solutions. Kamal Medjaher is a university professor at the Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Tarbes (ENIT). He is a member of the Production Engineering Laboratory (LGP) and conducts research in the field of Prognostics and Health Management. Noureddine Zerhouni is a university professor at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique et des Microtechniques de Besançon (ENSMM). Member of the FEMTO-ST Institute, he is interested in Prognostics and Health Management, intelligent maintenance systems and knowledge management.
